Johnson Cleaners branches across the UK have drastically reduced their plastic coat hanger orders in the last 12 months, with a nationwide ‘Hand Back Your Hangers!’ recycling campaign.

Top of the class is our Brunswick Street ‘GreenEarth’ branch in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, which has successfully slashed its hanger orders by 72 per cent. The store reduced them from 9,460 hangers to 2,580, despite achieving consistently strong footfall and sales figures in the same period.

Other star performers include our recently re-launched ‘GreenEarth’ stores on Killigrew Street in Falmouth, which achieved a reduction of 66 per cent, Roundhay Road in Leeds with 63 per cent, Mitchell Street in Glasgow with 62.5 per cent and Church Road in Hove at 58 per cent.

‘Hand Back You Hangers!’ was launched just under a year ago, to reduce the total number of Johnson Cleaners hangers in circulation and help to slash wastage across the business. Customers have been returning their yellow plastic hangers to dedicated hanger recycling stations in store, to be re-used.

All our branches are working in partnership with the Carbon Trust on a range of other environmental initiatives to help minimise the company’s carbon footprint, including targets for energy use reduction, ‘bag for life’ garment carriers, a ‘go paper free’ campaign for our Priority Club members and the ongoing nationwide roll-out of ‘GreenEarth’ cleaning technology.
