Johnson Cleaners net charity goal
11/02/11

North West football legend Phil Neville presented a cheque for £7,000, raised by Johnson Cleaners, to the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation on Thursday 10th February 2011.
The presentation took place at the Bolton branch, situated on Burnden Park, the former site of Bolton Wonderers football stadium. The branch was one of 107 Johnson Cleaners branches which recently took part in a national fundraiser.
The branch raised £323, the highest amount of all participating branches by holding a fun-day including a raffle with prizes from Wigan FC, Guinness, BMW and Mercedes. The branch staff also wore fancy dress for a whole day.
The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation works in a variety of ways to reach the goal of defeating lung cancer. This includes carrying out unique research into the early detection of lung cancer, which will hopefully lead to early diagnosis and save thousands of lives.
Alongside important research, the Foundation also offers practical and emotional support for those affected by lung cancer, support for smokers who want to quit, and guidance for children and young people to make informed decisions about smoking and the tobacco industry.
Phil Neville, captain of Everton FC and former England international, is known for his commitment to supporting charitable organisations and is an ambassador of Bliss, the special care baby charity, and a patron of the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital’s ‘The New Children’s Hospital Appeal’.
Life president of Everton Football Club, Sir Philip Carter, is also chair of trustees of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
Sir Philip Carter said: “On behalf of everyone at The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, I would like to thank Johnson Cleaners’ staff and customers for their fantastic support. To raise over £7,000 in just one day is a real achievement and the money raised will go towards our important work to defeat lung cancer. I would also like to thank Phil Neville for accepting the cheque on the charity’s behalf and lending his time and support for such an important cause.”
Johnson Cleaners managing director, Paul Ogle, said: “We were delighted to raise such a significant amount of money for such a worthwhile cause. The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is a tremendous charity and we are pleased that this money can go towards fighting this tragic disease.”
