NATIONAL TRUST GETS A BOOST FROM JOHNSON CLEANERS’ GREEN FINGERED TEAM

In line with its own green credentials and commitment as an environmentally responsible retailer, Johnson Cleaners the UK’s leading dry cleaning expert, this month offered support within its own local community by volunteering with the National Trust.
The team of six, put forward by Johnson Cleaners from its head office in Prescot, spent the day getting their hands dirty doing ‘scrub clearance’ in heathland on Formby Beach, on behalf the National Trust.
Speaking about the activity, Garry Knox, environmental brand manager for Johnson Cleaners, explained: “As a company we are constantly striving to improve our green credentials but it’s also important for us to give something back to our local environment too.
“A member of staff highlighted that they had done some work with the National Trust in the past and the company agreed that it would be a valuable and worthwhile cause to support. The team really got behind the event and although it was much more physically demanding than our regular work day we had a great time, and it was rewarding to know that we have helped to improve the local landscape.”
Through the National Trust’s ‘Employer Supported Volunteering’ scheme (ESV) employees across the UK are able to make a difference to the environment, while fulfilling staff training and development objectives and supporting Europe’s leading conservation movement.
Kate Martin, lead warden from the National Trust, commented: “To have a well-known organisation, such as Johnson Cleaners, volunteering its employees’ time to help us improve the environment is really positive.
“The National Trust wants more local companies to start considering their impact on the environment and go one step further than just improving day-to-day practices. We hope that other businesses follow Johnson Cleaners’ example and encourage their employees to get involved in schemes such as ours.”
Johnson Cleaners, the UK’s leading dry cleaning expert, is investing £6 million to convert all of its stores to eco-friendly ‘GreenEarth’ technology by 2013 and earlier this year the company was ranked 42 in the Sunday Times 60 Best Green Companies.
