SHREWSBURY DRY CLEANER WINS NATIONAL AWARD
15/12/11
Shrewsbury based Robert Preston has been named the Laundry and Dry Cleaning Achiever of the Year by Skillset, the sector skills council for the textile care training industries.
Robert, general assistant at the Claremont Street branch of Johnson Cleaners in Shrewsbury, fought off stiff competition from more than 50 other talented NVQ students to win the prestigious national award, which was open to all launderers and dry cleaners.
Robert won the award, which recognises learners who have had to overcome personal or professional obstacles to succeed in gaining their qualification, after being nominated by Johnson Cleaners’ regional trainer, Bill Moore.
Bill commented: “Robert has worked extremely hard to achieve his qualification. He is the perfect example of how gaining an NVQ can improve an individual’s confidence and ability in their job. Since completing the course, Robert has become an even more valued member of the team and it is fantastic that he has been given the recognition he deserves.”
Robert was presented with the winner’s trophy, £100 from Johnson Cleaners and £100 from Skillset by Johnson Cleaners’ operations director Anthony Barlow.
Talking about his recent award, Robert said: “Completing the NVQ has given me a better understanding of the dry cleaning industry and extra confidence in the job I do. Receiving the national award is a huge honour and something that has spurred me on to continue developing new skills.”
