Ready your reds this Friday!

Take part in Wear Red Day to raise money for the Children's Heart Surgery Fund

The Children’s Heart Surgery Fund are opening up the opportunity for schools, businesses, groups and individuals to show their support for their Keeping the Beat appeal by donning their favourite red attire, indulging in luxury foods or running small competitions. The aim of this Wear it Red Day campaign is to raise over £500,000 for the building and development of a state-of-art children’s theatre delivering all open heart surgery and minimally invasive heart procedures based at Leeds Congenital Heart Unit next year.

Here’s how you could get involved this Friday 3rd February:

1. Wear a red tie or tailored dress. If you’re planning to wear this at work, you’ll most definitely need to ensure this is free from spots and stains. Ink from the office or grease from a business lunch can be a common workplace stain, try covering these types of marks in talcum powder or corn starch then allowing it to soak for a few hours. If the stain is still present, you may need to head to Johnson Cleaners.

2. Play a sport. Maybe you’re part of a local sports team and have a Friday evening friendly? Why not suggest the whole team wears something red and run a collection during the match to support the cause? Refresh your reds post-match by putting them through the washing machine.

3. Colour coordinate clothes. A night out with your friends would be a great way to raise awareness of the campaign. Encourage your friends to search their wardrobes and dressing tables for anything with dashes of the colour, whether it be a blouse, piece of jewellery or a striking lipstick. If your lippy ends up on your clothing, try spraying the area with hairspray and allow it to set for fifteen minutes. After this, dab it with a damp, warm cloth to remove. Still no luck? You may need to choose something else and search for nearest branch later. Gentlemen, see if you can find a shirt, or a pair of cufflinks or socks.

4. Make a fruit salad or jelly. Invite guests over and fill a dish with scrumptious strawberries, juicy raspberries and chopped red apples and serve it for dessert after dinner. Tell them about the appeal and why they should donate. If fruit ends up on your clothing, run the stain under cold water; or if it makes its way onto the carpet or upholstery, scrape it off immediately and blot it with liquid hand dishwashing detergent and cold water. Family dinner plans? Jelly is always a winner with the little ones, but rub any marks with a solution of white vinegar, half a teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent and warm water.
